High Tatras
High Tatras are the highest mountains in Eastern European. These mountains create natural borders between Poland and Slovakia. For over 200 years High Tatras has been a popular place among tourists from all over the world. 14 world class resorts are compactly located within 50 km. Most popular among them are Strbske Pleso, Tatranska Lomnica, Stary Smokovec. Town of Podbanske is the western gate to High Tatras region, while scenic village of Zdiar is the eastern gate. Unique healing atmosphere of High Tatras attracts people with upper respiratory system health problems. Large health resorts, located in Strbske Pleso and Smokovec, offer: - in the summer time – hiking tours along breath-taking surrounding of Tatra mountain
- in the winter time – large variety of winter sports, such as mountain and country skiing, snowboarding, skating and sled riding. There are more than 20 km of well maintained skiing slopes, majority of which have snow making equipment.
Tatry region has well developed public transportation system: railway, trains and buses connect small towns with the regional center – town of Poprad. International airport Poprad-Tatry, that has highest elevation in Europe - 718 meters above sea level, is located in Poprad. Additionally, Poprad has bus and railway connections with most European cities.
