Lomnický štít - Lomnica Peak
Lomnica Peak is a third highest mountain peak in Slovakia. Its height reaches 2,632 m or more then 8,000 ft. This is the only mountain in Tatras that provides transportation to the very top. In 1937-1940, a cabin lift, going from Tatranská Lomnica to Skalnate Pleso to Lomnický štít, was built. It operates today as well. Štrbské Pleso is the most known and visited lake in High Tatras. It is situated 1346 m above the see level. It was first m in 1644 by David Frőhlich. In 1719 Juraj Bucholtz wrote about distilling oils of pine trees, surrounding the lake. In 1860 inhabitants of the settlement Štrba were trying to drain the lake to create a pasture on its place. Until 1901 lake belonged to the Liptov Szentivaniy family; later it was bought by Hungarian government. Since the end of XIX century, lake was used to artificially reproduce fish; during winters it served for extracting ice ( it was very clean, therefore, it was on high demand and was exported to Budapest, Berlin, and Vienna).Pribylina - Museum of Liptov region village in Pribylina
The museum was built as a result of the construction of the dam in Liptovský Mikuláš. Buildings from precious sites of the flooded area were transported to Pribylina, where since 1991 the museum of a Liptov village has been open to the public. Visitors of the museum can admire the skills of carpenters and gain an insight into the lifestyle and dwellings of our ancestors. Here you can visit the house of a shoemaker, ironsmith and tradesman and see the village school with its classroom, the church of the virgin Mary from Liptovská Mara and the manor house from the village of Parížovce. The overall setting of the village is rounded off with farm buildings, a fire station and an ironsmiths forge. The museum is complete with a small animal farm. Many events showing the traditions and habits of Liptov are often held on Sundays (Children's Sunday, Shepherds Sunday, St. Hubert's Day and Harvest Thanksgiving).Východná
Východná is situated cca 30 km far from Poprad. Východná is famous because of the biggest folklore festival which is takes place here every year in July.Ždiar
Ždiar is located in the valley between Belianske Tatras and mountain range of Spišská Magura. Ždiar is a discover to the seekers of national culture. Ždiar has very nice conditions for mountain skiing, especially for beginners. Ždiar House Museum passes on traditions of local inhabitants. During many centuries, main occupation was sheepherding. National costumes and handmade clothing can be found in many homes. Houses are decorated with traditional ornaments. Many houses preserved old-time carriages. Folk dance groups get their ideas from national songs and dances. Symbolic cemetery
Symbolic cemetery, located near Popradské Pleso is created to honour all casualties lost in the Tatra mountain range. It is available for tourist visitations. In present time, cemetery contains more then 160 memorials and 50 wooden hand made crosses. Initially memorial panels were built in the places where the tragedies took place. The art professor, Otakar Štafl (1884-1945), spread out and realized the idea of establishing symbolical cemetery in the mountains. In 1936 Štafl and his wife, along with few close friends, began to full fill their ideas.Podtatranské Museum - Poprad
Podtatranske muzeum (formerly Carpathian Museum) is one of the oldest in Slovakia. The building was constructed in 1886 for museum purposes in a Neo-Renaissance style. The Ganovce Exhibition, locality of a Neanderthal Man and his environment documents the gradual transformation of the natural environment from 120 thousand to 60 thousand years ago in the last interice. The Exhibition The Primeval Age and Early Middle Ages under the Tatras includes the period from the Middle Palaelithic to the late Middle Ages. The Exhibition History of town Poprad shows the historical development of this region from 1848 till 1945.
