Hronsek

Hronsek village is dominated by its unique wooden church and a wooden belfry. The church has 110 pews and comes from the Counter-Reformation movement when the evangelists were allowed to build their churches under special conditions: the building had to be made of wood without metal nails and had to be finished within a year from the begining of its construction in 1726

Castle in Slovenská Ľupča

The Slovenská Ľupča castle ( 11 km far from B.Bystrica) was built in Gothic style in the middle of the 13th century. Ján Jiskra and later Matej Korvín acquired the castle in the 15th century. At present 700 years old tree stands guard by the castle and attracts many domestic and foreign tourists. In Slovenská Ľupča and its environs there are many historical items evidencing the past famous history: a Gothic church built in 1611-1620 with interesting vaults; town-hall from 1659, the column of the Virgin Mary from the middle of the 18th century in the area of the Gothic church; a church with a precious oil-painting of Jesus Christ by J. B. Klemens.

Špania Dolina

Špania dolina has the most beautiful location of all villages in the Banská Bystrica surroundings (cca 10 km). Copper mining in Špania Dolina disappeared at the end of the 14th century. Galleries and a knocker from the 16th century remind us of the mining tradition. Turists attract a cathedral which originated after the rebuilding of the Roman Church in 1953. The dominant feature of this valley is a white church. Špania Dolina is well known for its bobbin-lacework. In summer women make lace outside in the streets. Their lace has been admired at fairs in Montreal, Leipzig and other cities all over the world.

Steam railway Čierny Hron

Unique restored original forest railway. You can make a journey from village Chvatimech to Čierny Balog village in the steam railway whole year.

Badínsky prales - Badin fores

The Badín forest is 13 km far from Banská Bystrica. The area was proclaimed as a state natural reservation in 1913. All visitors of forest are admired the majesty of big thick trees. Dominant tree species are fir and beech. The fauna is not investigated completely yet. There occur brown bear, wild pig, red deer, roebuck, lynx, wild cat, voles, fox, marten and more than 28 species of birds.
